This is what happens

when you marry a surfer.
Mornings, as you know it will never be the same again.
I always used to be an early riser, (we're talking 0800 in the morning).
After I married John who is also a morning person, (0400) my mornings have become a lot longer. Instead of waking up at 0800 I find myself, happily, awake before sunrise.

But I must admit on my holidays I do like to sleep in sometimes.
Our first days in Kauai however, sleep in's were overrated
I am happy I decided to get out of bed and out to the beach and the sunrises are spectacular, although a bit cold.
Due to my knee injuries I could unfortunately not participate in the surfing but was happy to take some shots.
The best thing was hitting the bakery after the surf session knowing you still had the whole day ahead of you.

So we've ventured out of Indonesia and into Hawaii country.
We are lucky to have friends in some of the islands so our first stop is Kauai.
First day, Bret takes us for a surf check, (flat/windy) so the boys decide to do a run on the beach instead.
Not so much into running but the photo op's were plentiful and the sunrise was a pleasant surprise.
 So was the wildlife.
The birds are pretty and colourful and there is wild chickens running around.
 And no snakes!
Mum you would love it here!

Lunar eclipse

Remember all those weeks ago we had a pretty decent lunar eclipse?
Thanks to the extremely efficient internet service on the island I had to wait until now to share it with you.

It was pretty awesome to watch. Also since there is not a lot of electricity around we saw it that much clearer.

The Lunar Eclipse is surrounded by a lot of superstition and the villagers did not like this red moon at all predicting bad things would happen.....and they did. A few days after a boat sank off one of the other islands, killing 6 people because they could not swim. Coincident? or blame it on the moon?

Afternoon delight

We are lucky to have the ocean literally right on our doorstep and the magical sunsets is just right at our front gate.
So it is not often I venture into the village at sunset time but when I do it is still magical.

Different scenery, longer shadows and we have the most amazing tree's.
