Hello goodbye

The last week or so we've been the only guests in the Hotel Tannenheim.
We've been spoilt rotten by the owners and hotel staff.

Which makes it that much harder to leave.
The icing on the cake for our last day was fresh, fresh powder snow.
The view from the dining room in the morning looks like this:

And we are often graced with the beauty of watching deer further up in the field. 
The last breakfast, (farm-made butter, handmade jam, mountain herb tea) before hitting the slopes and then heading back to London and a change of scenery:

The Walk, (Blog from John)

I have been coming to our secret spot in the Italian Alps, (Trafoi but MI5 OK), for over 20 years now and in all that time I have never climbed up the mountain and to tell you the truth have never really ever thought about it either.
Sure I have climbed up the ridges on the mountains upper slopes and even climbed to gain access to other villages but have always believed that the easiest way up the mountain was by the chairlift system.
So after years of Hildi trying to get me on "The Walk"' I finally relented and decided to walk all the way up the mountain. (I must have been mad!)
We thus proceeded to walk up "Route 17" and can't even imagine where all the other 16 routes are located. 

The record for the walk is 31 minutes and we did it in approximately 1 hour 40 minutes but did take in the scenery and took plenty of photos and not to mention rests.

I am definitely not quite ready for Mt Everest or the next Winter Olympics but probably did it quicker than the no.17 bus route in London, (or maybe not!)
Of course was really happy to reach the top and I think Hildi is  hoping it's not another 20 years until I do it again.......We will see eh!

The last couple of days it has been pretty fresh outside and absolutely freezing on the chairlift in the mornings. It hasn't snowed for a little while and the piste is slowly getting rock hard in the morning.
Not a good combination for my knees.
So, I have been walking up the mountain most mornings. It is a great way to start the day as it actually strengthens my knees and I get to see the sunrise over the mountain tops, which is pretty spectacular.

Once up I am saturated in sweat  so I always bring fresh layers of clothes with me. Then I sit down on the outside of the restaurant enjoying a warm apple drink which is made locally before I hit the slopes with John, attempting to get a few runs of snowboarding in, before the cold hits me.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

The snow finally came to Trafoi. After spending Xmas and New Years on the piste and getting texts from friends holidaying in Lech telling us about insane powder days, while looking out our window all we saw was green spots and grass, it was finally our turn.


 We had even seriously sat down to plan a trip back to Big John's place in Japan, as they are having the best season on record, but then boom! three days of snow changed the ever-green trees into snow covered ones and we had well over a meter.....

...and the best thing is that there is hardly anyone here. John and I were the only ones on the lifts for the first three hours.



 
The sad thing was that our friends missed out on some pretty awesome powder days.
